DIY Bento Box Emoji

In a new segment on HJF we’re bringing food emojis to life starting with the Japanese foods including the bento box, tempura shrimp, and nigiri. See all of them recreated in our latest YouTube video. The main focus for sure is the Bento Box. From our analyzation of the 4 quadrants of the bento box emoji we found that it includes a salad, rice, sushi, and some sort of fried food.

Ingredients:

  • 4 LB's Sushi Rice
  • 1 LB Salmon - Sushi Grade
  • 1 LB Ahi Tuna - Sushi Grade
  • 6 Nori Sheets
  • 5 Avocados
  • 1 Cucumber
  • 5 Cups Spinach
  • 1 Umeboshi: Pickled Plum
  • 5 Med Potatoes
  • ½ Cup Corn Starch
  • 1 Cup Carrots, Diced
  • 1 Onion, Diced
  • ½ Cup Corn
  • 1 LB Ground Beef
  • Tempura Batter
  • Oil for Deep Frying
  • Salt and Pepper, to taste

THINGS YOU’LL NEED:


Instructions:

  1. Make sushi rice.
  2. Create the croquets by peeling potatoes, cubing and then boiling until fork tender. Blitz in a food processor, with corn starch, and set aside to cool. Once cool form into patties and bread with flour, egg, then tempura. Deep fry until crispy. Place in bento box.
  3. Make the nigiri by thinly slicing the salmon and place on top of rice pressed into a rectangular shape. Repeat.
  4. The sushi roll pieces are created by placing the seaweed down and pressing rice along the inside. Fresh avocado and ahi tuna goes in the center. Roll it tight and set inside the bento box aside the nigiri.
  5. Place rice in a bowl, to create the dome shape, and place in bento box.
