Recipe Type: Dinner
Cuisine: American
Serves: 4
THINGS YOU'LL NEED:
- Large Pot
- Medium Bowl
- Stand Mixer
- Baking Sheet
- Cutting board and Knife
- Parchment Paper
INGREDIENTS:
- Ground Beef
- Swiss Cheese
- Lettuce
- Red or White Onion
- Pickles
- Ketchup
- Mayo
Dough
- 1 Large or 2 Small Purple Sweet Potatoes
- 1 1/2 Cup Luke Warm Milk
- 1 Packet Active Dry Yeast
- 2.5 Cups Flour
- 1/2 Tsp Salt
- 2 Tbsp Sugar
- Purple Food Gel
- melted butter
- Black Sesame Seeds
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Boil sweet potatoes in large pot until fork tender.
- Strain from pot and use a fork to mash until smooth.
- In stand mixer bowl mix together lukewarm milk and active dry yeast. Allow to activate. About 5 minutes.
- Add mashed purple potatoes, salt, sugar, and 1/4 of the flour. Start your stand mixer on medium low with the dough hook and slowly add int the rest of the flour and mix until the dough comes together and begins to unstick from the bottom of the stand mixer bowl.
- Roll out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes. Place in a lightly oiled bowl and cover with plastic wrap to rise in a warm area for about 2 hours or until doubled in size.
- Once the dough has risen punch it down releasing the air and roll out onto a floured surface. Roll into a tube and cut into 5 buns for whopper size rolls. To make it more purple add up to 4 drops of food dye per roll for maximum purple color. Unnecessary but will make the burger more creepy. Kneed each roll to combine the food dye entirely. Roll into a ball and place on a parchment lined paper.
- Brush with butter and top with black sesame seeds. Let rise for 30 more minutes and then bake for 15-20 minutes or until the internal temperature of the buns are between 190F and 200F. Take out and cool.
- Cook the burger on a grill pan to imprint the marks and then broil for 3 minutes, until fully cooked.
- Optionally make all of your toppings purple by putting a drop of food dye in mayo and mixing, put food dye in water and allow the rest of your veggies to soak about 1 hour. For the cheese melt a few slices of Swiss cheese in a small bowl, stir in food dye, and spread on parchment paper in a small square, place other piece of parchment onto to press down and smooth out the cheese. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
- Build starting with bottom bun, burger patty, cheese, pickle, mayo (OR Ketchup if your not making the 100% purple whopper), pickles, onion, tomato, mayo, top bun. Serve!
