Firecracker Burritos

Taco Bell is at it again with their innovations in food and this time they’re adding something spicy, sweet, and poppin’ to their regular burritos.  This is basically a traditional burrito but with a spicy red tortilla and red tortilla strips inside but what makes this burrito stands out is what coms on the side.  At a few Taco Bell restaurants in Southern California they are serving their Firecracker Burritos with Cayenne Pepper Pop Rocks.  So since we don’t live in California you know we had to make them.

We got a semi-reliable spicy pop rocks recipe and a standard crunchy beef burrito recipe. You choose to do what you want with this information, just don't blame us if you internally combust.

  • packet of Cayenne Pop Rocks

Instructions:

Cayenne Pepper Pop Rocks Recipe:

  1. Mix together the ingredients for the fizzy component of the recipe and set aside.
  2. In a medium pot on med high heat add in sugar, corn syrup and water. Let come to a boil and leave without stirring for 5 minutes.
  3. Take it off the heat and let rest for 1 minute then add your food dye
  4. To that mixture add baking powder and stir in until it's well incorporated.
  5. Last mix in your citric acid.
  6. On a parchment paper put a ½ of your fizzy component down and then pour on top your spicy candy mixture.
  7. Before it has time to set, sprinkle on more citric acid and the rest of the fizzy component.
  8. Leave this to set for about 2 hours then break into as many pieces as you'd like. We're going for the size of pop rocks so quite small.

Cayenne Pepper Pop Rocks Hack:

  1. Take a bag of pop rocks and sprinkle on cayenne pepper.

Burrito Build:

  • Build your burrito however you prefer. The order doesn't matter, but the ingredients are all listed above
  • Cut in half and sprinkle pop rocks candy on top and you'll hear it sizzle in your hand
  • If you don't enjoy the taste, at least you only poured it on top and not mixed throughout the entire burrito.
