Whataburger Patty Melt

We went to Whataburger, we ate Whataburger now we’re making Whataburger along with their signature creamy pepper sauce.  Double meat should be a staple in any restaurant because it provides just enough meat to everything else ratio a sandwich must have.

Ingredients:


  • 2, 4 oz Burger Patty's (80/20)
  • Monterrey Jack Cheese Slices
  • Texas Toast
  • Grilled Onions
  • 1 Tbsp Creamy Pepper Sauce
  • 1 Tbsp Mayonnaise
  • Creamy Pepper Sauce
  • 1 Tbsp Olive Oil
  • ½ Sweet Onion
  • 1 Clove Garlic
  • 1 tsp Black Pepper
  • 1 tsp Mustard
  • 2 tsp Chipotle Peppers (canned)
  • 1 Tbsp Parsley
  • 2 Tbsp Brown Gravy Powder
  • ¾ Cup Water
  • 1 Cup Buttermilk

Instructions:


  1. For the sauce, dice up Onion, Garlic & Parsley
  2. Add oil to a sauce pan and add in your onion until translucent and your garlic
  3. Combine all the dry ingredients add the water, bring to a boil and let simmer
  4. Finally add in your buttermilk
  5. As a spread on your burger, combine 1 part Mayonnaise and 1 part creamy pepper sauce
  6. With the other half of your onion, saute in a separate pan with oil until you reach carmelization
  7. Weigh out your burgers to approximately 4 oz each and season them with Julia's secret seasoning blend
  8. While on the grill, make 3 perforations into the meat in one direction and 3 perforations into the meat 45 degrees. This will prevent the burger from shrinking too much and give it an interesting texture
  9. Butter up some Texas Toast and grill for 2-3 minutes on medium heat
  10. The build order is: Texas Toast, cheese, burger patty, cheese, burger patty, creamy pepper spread, grilled onions and Texas Toast.
