Froot Loop Donuts

Carl’s Jr/Hardee’s just came out with the new, limited time treat, the Froot Loop Donuts and we followed our nose right to the drive-through.  After taste testing it was our mission to come up with a copycat recipe that you can make at home.  The most difficult part of this recipe was creating the “All Natural Fruit Flavor” but we think we’ve done it and now you can make your own mini or normal size Froot Loop flavored donuts at your home.

  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 4 lg eggs, lightly beaten
  • 2 tbsp baking powder
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ of flavoring mixture
  • Oil for frying

Icing:

  • 4 cups confectioners sugar
  • 4 tbsp milk
  • ½ of flavoring mixture

  • 2 tsp strawberry extract
  • 2 tsp blue raspberry
  • 2 tsp orange extract

  • Yellow
  • Green
  • Blue
  • Purple

THINGS YOU’LL NEED:

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your deep fryer or oil to 375F
  2. Mix together you flavor essences and cut in half. Half of this mixture will go in the donut dough the other in the icing.
  3. Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  4. In a stand mixer whisk in softened butter until crumbly. Add in lightly beaten eggs and milk.
  5. Roll out on a floured surface and knead. Add more flour if too wet.
  6. Cut dough into six and dye each one red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and yellow. Roll out, cut a circle using a mold, and cut out the circle in the middle.
  7. Deep fry for about 2 minutes per side.
  8. Make your icing by mixing confectioners sugar with milk and flavoring. Split the icing into 6 bowls and die them all the same froot loop colors.
  9. Pour icing overtop the donuts, let set, and enjoy!
